APRIL MAGLOTHIN, Creator & Principal
What made you start p.i.g.?
As a professional creative, I am passionate about solving problems. As a designer and creative director, making fun-to-look-at-things is what I do. I was frustrated by the one-size-fits-all approach that the typical boxed greeting cards had to offer, so I wanted to create a collection for people who love good design and want to be prepared for any special occasion. If you forget the intern’s birthday, or your anniversary, just pull out a p.i.g. and you’re covered.
What do you have a knack for?
Problem Solving. It’s kind of a compulsion of mine. I believe design has a function to enhance all parts of life. From a simple process to a complicated product, including design is an integral part of innovation & problem solving. In turn, designers should learn the value in educating themselves about business. Design and business should go hand in hand. It's no longer just a logo or color palette. It's a way of innovative thinking across the platform.
How long have you been doing what you do?
I’ve been designing for 14 years and creative directing for 7 of those years. I’ve worked in-house and freelance for clients in education, art, tech & small business.
What most excites you about your work?
I could sit in a room of paper for hours if no one stopped me. The textures, the way each paper prints differently, foil stamping, letterpress, etc... it all makes me a paper geek. When you add patterns and colors to the mix you have my idea of heaven. That’s how I know I love what I do. I can wake up in the morning happy to get started.
Where can we find you when you are not at pop-in-greetings?
In my garden, camping with my family, test baking gluten free treats or out with my girlfriends.
What’s playing on your radio right now?
I’m all over the map - The National, TV on the Radio, Rod Stewart, Ben Folds and Pistol Annies
